Steel Landscape Edging: Plan the Line Before You Buy
Steel edging gives a garden a crisp line between lawn, bed, path, or gravel. The product is simple; the planning is where projects go wrong.
- Walk the line first. Use a rope or a hose to lay out the curve on the ground, then measure it. The running length is almost always longer than it looks.
- Count effective coverage. Sections overlap at the joints, so usable length per section is less than its total length. Plan with the stated effective coverage, not the section size.
- Mark the corners and curves. Tight curves need shorter sections or more joints. Check the product’s stated minimum curve radius if it has one.
- Plan the depth. Part of the edging disappears into the ground. Decide how much you want above the surface and confirm the product can be installed that way.
Fixing components and end details belong in the plan too, along with the tools the installation requires.
